Melbourne's dearly departed stores

STOKERS COFFEE LOUNGE AND PANCAKE PARLOUR

1033 Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe

An institution for pancakes in Ivanhoe since 1977, the oh-so-retro Stokers closed its doors in June after the land on which it sat on was sold to Quest Apartments.

OLYMPIC DOUGHNUTS

Footscray Station

The rusted van with the faded-paint 1956 Olympic rings dispensed its last hot jam doughnut in June. As part of the station precinct revitalisation project, the business is now a kiosk.

PLATYPUS CRICKET BALLS

365 Plenty Road, Preston

A much-loved (and not just by the cricketing community) family business whose still-standing period-brick warehouse, dating back to the 1930s, shut up shop in 2012.
