Debut ... 68-year-old singer and actress Bette Midler will perform at the Academy Awards for the first time.
The iconic Bette Midler will perform for the first time at the Academy Awards this year.
Despite a career spanning five decades, the 68-year-old two-time Oscar nominated actress and singer has never performed on the Oscar stage.
“We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” said the broadcast's producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said today in a statement.
“We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially moving evening.”
This year's Oscars - the 86th Academy Awards - will be staged on March 2 in the US. They will air on the US network ABC and on Channel Nine in Australia.
The talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres will host the telecast.
Midler has two Oscar nominations to her name, in the lead actress category, for performances in the films For The Boys and The Rose.
While winning an Oscar may have eluded her, she has three Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards and one Tony Award.
