It may have lost a little of its freshness, but this sitcom about scientific geniuses navigating life, love and work is still funny. Among the highlights this season are Sheldon (Jim Parsons) forming a bond of sorts with his childhood idol Professor Proton (an aged but still droll Bob Newhart), having an encounter with James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader) and making an unexpected discovery about his mother. But his girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik) remains frustrated.
Meanwhile Raj (Kunal Nayyar) has a breakthrough with women (he can now talk to them without the aid of alcohol) and Howard (Simon Helberg) and wife Amy (Melissa Rauch) have to look after his mother at close quarters, which proves trying. And Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) mark a milestone in their relationship - but not before going through complications.
And perennial loser Stuart (Kevin Sussman), owner of the comic-book store the guys frequent, suffers a particularly harsh blow.
It's all good fun and there's a nice complement of special features including a gag reel and several featurettes on particular episodes and aspects of the show.
