Booked for Bluesfest: John Mayer.
Hot on the heels of lineup announcements for the Big Day Out and Soundwave comes the first release of acts for the 25th Bluesfest.
It looks as strong as ever, with a pair of American Grammy award winners and chart toppers: blues-rock singer-songwriter John Mayer and alt-rock legends the Dave Matthews Band.
Mayer, whose 2012 album Born and Raised was number one on the album charts here and in the US, last played at Bluesfest in 2007. He has a new album out now, Paradise Valley.
The Dave Matthews Band hasn’t had the same impact on the Australian charts as it has in the US, where its last six studio albums have gone to number one. They were an audience favourite at Bluesfest though in 2005.
Funk/hip-hop/R&B superstars Michael Franti with Spearhead, soul queen Erykah Badu and bluesman Gary Clark jnr have also been named in the lineup.
They are joined by new-folk singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart, indie band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and British trip-hop act Morcheeba. Bluesfest favourite John Butler Trio, alt-popster Iron & Wine, KT Tunstall, Allen Stone and Valerie June complete the first announcement.
Bluesfest promoter Peter Noble is a fan of staggering his lineup releases, so expect plenty more names of similar calibre.
Bluesfest will be held at Byron Bay from April 17-21, 2014 and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster or via bluesfest.com.au
