World-conquering singer Gotye will close a triumphant 2012 with a series of homecoming shows in December.

Having topped 31 international charts, Gotye will turn his attention back to Australia with concerts in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The tour will feature a 10-piece band and a lavish stage production as Gotye thanks Australian fans for being the first to propel his hit Somebody That I Used To Know to number one.

In the lead-up, the Melbourne musician will play concerts in famous music venues, such as The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall in New York City and London's Hammersmith Apollo.

The global victory lap will close an incredible year for Gotye, who was last month named Australian Songwriter of the Year at the APRA Awards and won Best Male Artist at the ARIA Awards.

Somebody That I Used To Know is fast approaching sales of 10 million units worldwide and last week spent its eight week at the top of the US chart.

Equalling the record of The Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive, the feat makes Gotye's hit the second most successful Australian single in the US ever, behind Olivia Newton-John's 1982 hit Physical.

Tickets for Gotye's shows will go on sale to mailing list members and Facebook friends on June 22 and the general public on June 27.

Gotye plays the following shows:

December 6 - Entertainment Centre, Adelaide

December 8 - Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne

December 12 - Riverstage, Brisbane

December 14 - Entertainment Centre, Sydney
