Family reportedly 'terrified' Janet Jackson may have throat cancer

Two weeks after Janet Jackson cancelled her world tour suddenly, there is speculation that the youngest of the Jackson family could have throat cancer.

"Doctors found a growth on Janet's vocal cords that could be serious," said a source RadarOnline claims is close to the singer.

"It's a medical condition that has to be taken care of immediately."

Gossip website RadarOnline felt sure enough of its source to tell its readers on Tuesday that Jackson's 'Life and death health crisis [is the] secret reason for cancelled tour".

Again on Wednesday, a source close to the singer - it's not known if it's the same one - told RadarOnline her family was "terrified" of the soon-to-be revealed diagnosis.

"They are all so scared that Janet may have cancer," the source said. "The situation is really quite baffling because Janet does not smoke cigarettes and she lives a really healthy lifestyle."

Before New Year's Eve, Jackson cancelled the remainder of her Unbreakable world tour, telling fans: "I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon" and asked fans to "Please pray for me ... during this difficult time".

"I love you all so much and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon' b alright."

Katherine and Joseph Jackson had 10 children, although Brandon* died in childbirth. Michael Jackson, who died at 50 in 2009, is the only other of their children to have passed away.

* Original story named Marlon rather than Brandon as the Jackson who died in childbirth.
