Hacker uses Virgin Australia's Twitter account to slam Kanye West

Virgin Australia has apologised after a hacker used its official Twitter account to call controversial American hip hop star Kanye West a douche.

The rogue tweet on Virgin's official Australian account suggested that West should, "EAD ... you douche." EAD is slang for "Eat A Dick."

Kanye West drops album and fashion line

Kayne West's new album The Life of Pablo plays during the release of his fashion line Yeezy Season 3, but those who want to get their hands on it will have to sign up to TIDAL to get a copy.

The attack came in response to a tweet by the never-shy West, who said that his latest album The Life of Pablo was a 30 out of 10.

On Tuesday night Virgin Australia apologised for any offence the rogue tweet may have caused.

It said the tweet was not written by one of its employees.

The tweet, published on Tuesday afternoon after the Grammys, was removed within 60 seconds.  Even in that time it was seen by hundreds of people.

It was described as "embarrassing" by some Twitter account holders. Others were amused.

Virgin said only one rogue tweet was sent. It has not given any explanation of how the security breach occurred.

While Virgin Australia has 210,000 Twitter followers, West - with nine million followers  - appeared oblivious to the attack. About the same time on Twitter, he mused about his music and art.

West, who is married to Kim Kardashian, is never far from controversy, especially his most recent claim in a new song Famous that he made crossover artist Taylor Swift famous.

At this week's Grammy Awards, Swift used her speech for Album of the Year to hit back at West.
