Justin Bieber took to twitter to announce his retirement but additional tweets left fans wondering exactly what that means.PT1M11S http://www.canberratimes.com.au/action/externalEmbeddedPlayer?id=d-2zx2m 620 349 December 26, 2013
Justin Bieber's retirement from the music scene - at 19 - triggered any one of three emotions: shock, horror or delight. After using Twitter to announce his exit on Christmas Eve (to his 47 million ''Beliebers'', as they like to be called), the Twitterverse exploded with more than 280,000 retweets.
Many thanked him for the early Christmas present, while more hardcore fans lamented and denied the pop star's exit.
''A Christmas miracle!'' wrote one user. ''I'm going to cry I love Justin Bieber so much,'' wrote another.

Just last month Bieber also told an American radio station that he was quitting the music industry.
''After the new album, I'm actually retiring, man. I'm retiring,'' he said.
But then he added: ''I want to grow as an artist, and I'm taking a step out, I want my music to mature.''
The announcement conveniently occurred on the eve of the release of his new movie, Believe, prompting speculation it was merely a publicity stunt.
After breaking tween hearts worldwide, he proceeded to share with his fans on social media: ''I'm never leaving you'' and ''IM HERE FOREVER''.
There's no doubt Bieber can afford to take a break. Forbes named him the ninth most-powerful celebrity, with estimated earnings of $58 million last financial year.
Bieber didn't grow up in the most fortunate of circumstances, raised by his single mother, who had him at the age of 17. She worked low-paying jobs to support him.
Born Justin Drew Bieber on March 1, 1994, in Ontario, Canada, he attended a local elementary school and high school there, graduating in 2012.
His pathway to fame began at the age of 12, when his mum uploaded footage of him performing to YouTube, attracting the attention of singer Usher, who eventually signed him to his label.
In 2010, Bieber achieved worldwide fame with the release of hit single Baby, with the music video becoming the second-most-viewed video of all time on YouTube, garnering close to 1 billion views.
''Bieber fever'', as the obsession with him is commonly referred to, now goes beyond album sales with Bieber's merchandise ranging from jewellery to posters and shower curtains.
Bieber famously dated former Disney actress and singer Selena Gomez for two years, before calling it quits earlier this year.
Long gone are the days of his youthful signature side-swept hairdo. Instead he's traded it in for a deeper voice, numerous tattoos and ill-fitting pants that hang far from the norm.
