NAT DUNNA Fool’s Fate (Independent)★★★

More used to singing on other people’s releases, Nat Dunn’s debut EP is a soulful adventure for traditional enthusiasts of good, well-made music, sung by a woman with chops. On opener Trigger, with plenty of punch and a lot of shake, Dunn channels Diesel as she belts up and down the rocking number. Making music for her, this album (co-written and produced by Pip Norman) also feels written for those who turn up to places like Byron Bay Bluesfest and actually know most of the bands on the bill. Or who live to spend a few weeks in Austin to soak up the latest jazz blues vibe. This isn’t readily commercial, but it shows Dunn has delicacy and soul in her veins.
