SHARON JONES AND THE DAP-KINGSGive the People What They Want★★★★½

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings set high expectations for their sixth album Give the People What They Want and, thankfully, they have delivered. From the hip-popping horns solo in opening track Retreat to the finger-clicking Now I See, the group show no sign of slowing down from their previous successes. The second single, Stranger To My Happiness, has been described as a ''soul stomper'' and I'd have to agree. Jones is her iconic, sassy self, proving that her ongoing chemotherapy treatment is having no impact on her impressive voice. Jones also does slow and sultry just as well, as demonstrated with the album's We Get Along. Do yourself a favour - go buy the record.
