THE BAMBOOSFever in the Road (Pacific Theatre)★★½

At first listen, this album was a little disappointing. It was hard to avoid some slight letdown with this new release following The Bamboos’ sultry 2012 collaboration with Tim Rogers for I Got Burned, and it probably wasn’t fair that I’d spent the week before listening to soul legends Sam and Dave. That said, there are enough hand-clapping, hip-jutting tunes to keep most listeners pleased, and the Melbourne band capture the energy of their live shows in Fever in the Road, their sixth album. It may take a few listens, but you’ll be dancing around your living room soon enough.
