My favourite place to eat out in Canberra is: definitely one that is family-friendly. We love having breakfast at Two for Joy in Kingston. The eggs benedict is the best I've discovered in town. I'm a very late arrival to the Brodburger fan club but a game of Uno while we wait is hard to beat. Tudo in O'Connor and Beijing House in Hawker have solved many a dinner conundrum.

The best part about being acting director, Community Outreach at the National Library of Australia is: that I meet so many great people. It sounds like a cliche but I am constantly reminded that our Patrons, Volunteers and Friends' membership have lived full and deeply interesting lives. I've been lucky too, to meet some of my writerly heroes, people like Frances Spalding, Geraldine Brooks, David Malouf, and Michael Leunig. Working at the library is one long masterclass in writing and research. Also, I buy my coffee from bookplate every day – that's got to be a good thing.

The worst part about being acting director, Community Outreach is: that I go to so many events at the library, I don't have time to go to events anywhere else. That's why my ideal weekend is so lazy.

I used to work as: a superhero – not really but I know more about Spider-Man than I ever thought I'd need to. I have very, very fond memories, though, of working for Muse magazine and writing about the arts in this city. They were great days at Muse. Helping create a magazine each month is very satisfying, even if I did have nightmares about opening an issue and finding only blank pages. I felt like I was across all the arts activity in town. Of course, I went to even more events then than I do now.
