    I can't agree with this review. I thought Assayas got the tone just about right for pretty much the entire film. There are a few missteps towards the end but in general, this is a fairly clear-eyed, non-sentimental look at not just the period in question but the effects it had afterwards. And when it comes to examining how the ideals of those involved became compromised, he doesn't shy away.
