  • This does not deal in controversial politics of the conflict that has become Afghanistan but in the mechanics of survival in the battle against Taliban fighters. Like BLACK HAWK DOWN this is a mission that goes horribly wrong and deals in heroic stoicism and sacrifice for the man next to you. It is bloody and confronting in it's execution of violence. Director Berg is an understanding and thoughtful action filmmaker. Berg dealt with Islamic terrorism in the visceral and intense THE KINGDOM. Along with Kathryn Bigelow Berg has made some of the better films dealing in this genre. LONE SURVIVOR is a good addition to this genre but lacks the inflammatory politics that saw Brian De Palma left in the waste-bin of society with REDACTED by the Fox News people who love Bergs LONE SURVIVOR. THE HURT LOCKER, ZERO DARK THIRTY, BODY OF LIES, THE KINGDOM, MUNICH, TRAITOR, THE DEVILS DOUBLE are stand-out films from an American point-of-view, where anti-Vietnam films at the time where an attack on American foreign policy! Post 9/11 won't let these films be a condemnation of foreign policy. Nerves are still raw for analytical dissemination on the war on terror!

    • In other words, it's just another Hollywood cop-out, turning genuine tragedy into "Action" pop-corn fodder. Can't white for "9-11, the Musical".

  • Lame movie made for insiders with no context on characters. Story cut short don't understand the compelling need to tell the story in such a half baked fashion. I admire elite forces however SEALs are all holding death wishes and are a dysfunctional cult in many ways like suicide bombers willing to put self to death for the cause 3/10
