More than $110,000 was raised for various charities, making the event the greatest Sun Run to date.

Head of Sport at Fairfax Event, Chris Secker said he was thrilled at the number of participants who took part.

"We're thrilled that so many people laced up their trainers and participated in the 6th annual Sun Run on one of the greatest coastlines in the world. There was an incredible atmosphere from start to finish and with so much money raised for charity, it has been a fantastic day.

"A huge thank you to all our volunteers and congratulations to everyone who participated, we can't wait to see you all again next year," Secker said.

The event attracted a mixture of people, from professional athletes to your everyday person. Runners participated in either the 7km and 10km courses that showcased spectacular views of Sydney's Northern Beaches.

Thomas Do Canto was the named the winner of the mens 10km run with Victoria Mitchell the first female to cross the line. In the shorter 7km course, Brendan Mclenaghan and Lara Tamsett were the first to cross.

Thousands of swimmers will take to the water in Manly on Sunday for the 33rd Cole Classic swimming event.
