SIX BURNING QUESTIONS WITH …RICHARD DAVIES - ACTOR

1. WHY IS OFFSPRING SO POPULAR?

I had no idea it would be this successful but I’m not surprised because the show has such a good collaborative team behind it. Whatever you do in this industry, if it strikes a chord with a few people then it’s a really satisfying feeling.

2. YOU’VE BEEN THERE FOR FIVE SEASONS – ARE YOU AFRAID OF BECOMING TYPECAST?

In between seasons I do other things, like when I played David Hookes in Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War on Cricket. I’ve also played roles in a couple of films that haven’t come out yet, which I’m excited about.

3. YOUR CHARACTER JIMMY HAS STUMBLED ACROSS RESPONSIBILITY IN HIS LIFE. DO YOU RELATE TO HIM?

I absolutely relate to Jimmy, especially after playing him for five seasons. I’ve really loved the moments he’s been through this season where he’s had to take stock and man up.

4. DO YOU THINK MELBOURNE REALLY NEEDS ANOTHER TACO FRANCHISE?

We do, we do. We need more and more of them. But Jimmy’s is the best, of course. I do love Mad Mex though, and the Taco Truck. I have eaten so much of their food; I should’ve saved the receipts to use them as a tax write-off.

5.YOU PRODUCED, WROTE AND STARRED IN THE SHORT FILM WHEN THE WIND CHANGES. IS BEING BEHIND THE CAMERA SIMILAR TO BEING IN FRONT OF IT?

I hope to act forever but I just think it’s so rewarding to be involved in something from its embryonic phase right through to completion. You realise how much really happens before and after the actors step on set.

6. DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE FILM PROJECTS ON THE BOIL?

I’m working on a script at the moment with a couple of friends that’s still in its early stages. It’s a feature script so it’s taking a lot longer, but it’s so much fun. I won’t blow the trumpet too loud until it’s actually something.
