Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush, cabaret star Bob Downe and television sweetheart Lisa McCune are among the nominees for the 30th annual Green Room awards, announced on Tuesday morning.
Celebrating achievement in Melbourne's professional performing arts, the awards span cabaret, dance, musical theatre, opera, theatre and alternative and hybrid performance productions, and recognise the efforts of both performing artists and backstage and technical crew.
Opera Australia is leading the charge this year with 20 nominations, followed by Melbourne Theatre Company with 17 nominations and Victorian Opera with 12 nominations.
The musical Chess was nominated for 12 awards, the most of any music theatre production.
Performer nominees include Bob Downe for 20 Golden Greats, Lisa McCune for South Pacific, Geoffrey Rush for A Funny Thing Hap-pened on the Way to the Forum and Colin Friels for Red.
Green Room Awards are peer-nominated and decided upon by a panel of artists, academics and commentators.
The awards will be announced in a ceremony hosted at the Comedy Theatre on Monday, May 6.
Individual achievement awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, will also be given on the night.
