It was already known Michael Cormick would play the Phantom and Julie Lea Goodwin would play Christine.
Both are professional Phantom veterans: Cormick played Raoul on the West End for two and a half years and Goodwin played Christine on the Australasian tour for 200 performances opposite Anthony Warlow.
Free-Rain artistic director Anne Somes says, ''We have the cream of Canberra and the region's talent, who will take on understudy roles, featured roles, ensemble and ballet corps.'' One role, Ubaldo Piangi, is still to be cast.
Sarah Darnley-Stuart will be understudying Christine and Carlotta. David Pearson will play the romantic lead, Raoul, while Michael Moore and Tony Falla will play Monsieur Firmin and Monsieur Andre, respectively.
Joseph McGrail-Bateup will play Monsieur Reyer, Christine Wallace will play Carlotta, Bronwyn Sullivan will play Madame Giry (understudied by Veronica Thwaites-Brown) and Tamina Koehne-Drube will play Meg.
