Breakfast at Ten ... Adam Boland

Adam Boland confirmed his rumoured switch to Network Ten on Friday morning through social media platform Twitter.

Ten confirmed the appointment shortly afterwards, announcing that Boland would start as Director of Morning Television in mid-March.

“We are very excited about hiring Adam, who is one of the best television news executives in Australia,” Network Ten Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, said in the statement.

The network is floundering in the ratings so far this year, and are also without a morning television flagship after the axe fell on the Paul Henry-led Breakfast at the end of last year.

Boland, the former Executive Producer of Seven Network’s Sunrise and The Morning Show, who captained those shows to ratings dominance, announced that he was leaving Seven last week, again via Twitter.

He added on his Facebook page that “after almost 14 years, I have told Seven I won’t be renewing beyond February.

"It’s time to leave home. Gulp…”

The appointment will see Boland join incoming CEO McLennan who officially joins the network next month. Russel Howcroft, recent Ten appointee and regular Gruen panelist continues as acting CEO in the meantime.

Boland said he was delighted to be joining Ten.

"I firmly believe in Hamish and his management team, the plans they have for the company and their strong commitment to innovative programming," he said.

"Frankly, the decision to join them was a no-brainer for me. I know it's a place where I can have some real fun."
