Alaska Wing Men, Friday, June 8

National Geographic, 9.30pm

THERE'S some white-knuckle flying as veteran Alaskan aviator Dom takes student pilot Amy for lessons that involve landing his light plane on a glacier and a frozen lake. Amy may be a good pilot but the lessons are not what you would call uneventful. And then there's the handgun lessons, in which Dom teaches her to shoot at grizzly bears - two of which he says he's had to kill in self-defence. It's certainly a wild world up there but perhaps the most interesting bit is the part in which Dom explains how air exhibits ''fluid dynamics'', flowing like water over, down and around hills, ridges and mountains. Elsewhere, other pilots face tricky landings on water and snow as they drop off hunters and skiers. Worth a look.
