Mother-daughter duo Gina and Anna Petridis, former owners of Canberra school uniform store Savvy School Wear, were in the first group of budding cooks on the Prime7 reality show.
In Tuesday night's episode, Anna and Gina hosted the other contestants and judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel at their house in Canberra for their own instant restaurant.
Anna and Gina have continually talked up their culinary talents during the season so far, and fellow contestants said they were eager to see whether the women could live up to their own hype.
The final pair to cook in their group, Anna and Gina's menu of complex dishes initially impressed both the contestants and the judges.
"If Gina and Anna can pull this off then I know why they've been so vocal around the table," said Evans.
Anna started the evening confidently, saying, "I don't even know what failure means", but it was a word they learnt a lot about during the course of the night.
Their entrée of salt and pepper flathead fillets with lime aioli failed to impress the judges. Evans said it was "overcooked" and "without a salt and pepper flavour".
The initial plan for rotolo of gnocchi and duck ragu with crispy sage didn't work out and the duo switched to pasta at the last minute - leaving their guests waiting for more than two hours between entrée and main.
"I said I'd do Canberra proud. If we screw this, Canberra is going to chase us out of town with burning torches and pitch forks like a couple of ogres," said Anna.
The dessert of crème patissiere tarts with prunes in port syrup also failed to impress, with the judges struggling to cut through the tart base.
Low scores from both the judges and fellow contestants left them bottom of the leader board, and the first to be eliminated from the competition.
On the 2014 season of the high-rating program, Emelia Vimalasiri and Andrew Hinge were the show's first Canberran duo, but were also the first to be eliminated after failing to impress with their instant restaurant.
Before anyone chases them out of town, the Petridis women have another chance to show locals what they're made of: they have plans to open three food venues in Canberra over the coming months.
