Audiences of the award-winning show were left devastated at the end of season four when the popular Dr Patrick Reid, played by Matthew Le Nevez, died in the second-last episode.

Thousands bombarded social media with messages of heartbreak during the following week’s finale, with Patrick’s funeral held on the same day that Nina, played by Asher Keddie, gave birth to their daughter.

Canberra born Le Nevez, a St Edmund’s College old boy, is now hoping to break into Hollywood, with a few Australian projects also scattered throughout the year.

Now with season five of Offspring back, fans can expect a little more Canberra eye-candy, with Patrick Brammall joining the show.

Also Canberra-born, Brammall is most well-known for a number of television roles, including in A Moody Christmas, Upper Middle Bogan, and playing Rupert Murdoch in miniseries Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch War.

Although hordes of fans vowed to never watch the show again, it was a threat many couldn’t follow through on when the show returned a fortnight ago, intrigued to see Nina face bringing up her daughter alone.

In tonight’s episode, Brammall stars as Leo, a handsome stranger Nina meets while waiting at the airport.

The two find themselves with time to kill, and decide to get a drink, which then leads to a proposition by Leo and Nina considering the offer.

It is yet to be seen how long Brammall will stick around with the Proudman clan or whether he’ll build up quite the following of his predecessor.

One can only hope that if he does leave, it's in far less tragic circumstances – the wounds are still very raw for some.
