Hayley Jensen and Thando Sikwila have made it through blind auditions on The Voice, and both chose the Queen of Pop, Kylie Minogue, as their coach.

Next up the contestants head into the “battle round”. I hear that it’s up to Kylie to decide on who will battle, so fingers crossed the Canberra contestants don’t have to go head-to-head.

Over on Masterchef, Natasha Shan has been impressing the judges, making it into the top few contestants in a number of challenges. Locals have been getting behind the food blogger using #teamtash to show their support.

And it’s not just adults waving the flag for Canberra. Twelve-year-olds Mika Sly-Umebayashi and Marian Tucker will star on Camp Orange: Force 10! which airs on Nickelodeon in June.

As team “M TASTICS”, the pair will compete against other kids from across Australia and New Zealand to win prizes. The show is filmed at Seaworld on the Gold Coast, and from the looks of things, involves a lot of Nickelodeon’s signature slime.

With Big Brother auditions having come to Canberra for the first time this year, time will tell if a local will make it into the most famous share house.

Dance tutor David McLean will dancing all the way from Tuggeranong to Los Angeles after winning an international competition.

The competition, The Richboyz Project, gave an opportunity for one young male dancer from anywhere in the world to win flights and accommodation to Los Angeles to train and perform with handpicked dance troupe the Richboyz.

David has been dancing with Fresh Funk at Tuggeranong Arts Centre for about 12 years, having progressed to working as a permanent tutor for the past four years.

“I’ve always hoped that it would take me somewhere – you always have your little doubts having people tell you it’s not a proper career choice,” he says.

For the competition, a choreographed dance video was uploaded online, and entrants had only 24 hours to learn the moves and then upload a video of themselves recreating the dance.

“It’s stressful, but it’s really fun because you get pumped up,” he says.

“You do nothing but focus and stress. You quickly go to a studio and film and post and hope your internet connection is quick enough to load it up in time.”

David, who one day hopes to go on tour as a dancer with a big-name artist, heads to LA in August and will stay for a month rehearsing and then performing.

If you’ve ever done the midnight drive back from Sydney on a weeknight after a concert, you know the frustration every time a band announces their tour and leaves Canberra out.

The nation’s capital continues to boom in every other area, but when it comes to big touring acts, promoters seem to be as oblivious to us as Beyonce was to her sister during her elevator-outburst against Jay Z.

OutInCanberra and MIX 106.3 want to change all this and have teamed up to try and lure the Rolling Stones to Canberra for a concert on November 10 during their upcoming, rescheduled tour.

By enticing such a big-name act, they feel it could set a precedent to attract more superstars in the future.

Canberra's bid to bring the stones to town began in March when the ACT government launched an audacious bid for the legendary band to the rock the national capital.

At the time, the Canberra Liberals accused ACT Tourism Minister, Treasurer and Rolling Stones fan Andrew Barr of getting on the band wagon in an attempt to score himself a backstage pass to the gig.

But the dream came to a sharp end when two additional shows in Perth and the Hunter Valley only were announced for the rescheduled tour despite the government's formal push.

The Googong Family Fun Day is on this Sunday, and Gold Logie winner and Australia’s favourite TV tradie Scott Cam will be on hand as an honorary Googonian for the day.

Scott will be in town representing McDonald Jones Homes who are opening their first display home in the region at Googong.

Scott was the big winner at the recent Logie Awards, taking home both a Silver Logie for “Most Popular Presenter”, as well as the big one – the Gold Logie.

“The next couple of days after the fact were pretty surreal and it was incredible that I was in the club which is a pretty good club to be in. But then after that it was just back to work and back to normal,” says Scott about the win.

Not one to let the award sit in a shelf and gather dust – Scott has plans for his new golden statue.

“I’m putting the gold one in the study and I’m putting a stubby opener on the bottom of it,” he says.

“It will have a purpose so I have an excuse to get it out.”

The Googong Family Fun Day in on in Beltana Park on Sunday May 18, 12pm-3pm. As well as the chance to mingle with Scott, there will be live bands, a jumping castle, face painting and a sausage sizzle.
