Cracks are starting to appear in The Block Glasshouse teams as Darren and Deanne win $20,000 in just three days.
The pair had already won $15,000 from the judges and jury vote for their guest bedroom and study. They capped it off with another $5000 windfall after winning a challenge to overhaul offices at Melbourne Polytechnic in just seven hours, going with a rainforest theme for their room.
Winning extra money is more important on this series of The Block than ever before due to the sheer size of it - some 3540 square metres.
It's not even the halfway mark and already some teams are worried they have blown too much of their $100,000 budget.
"I don't feel bad with (an extra) $20,000 in my pocket," Darren said.
Simon, who has accused Darren and Deanne of deliberately giving other teams lower scores to boost their own chance of winning $5000 jury votes, was unimpressed.
"I wasn't happy that they won $20,000 because that's a big advantage, that's for sure," he said. "To win $20,000 that's an extra room."
Upon hearing the news, Maxine and Karstan looked shattered.
"Let's look at all options; we need this $5000 really badly," Maxine had said at the start of the challenge, in which they went with a fish tank and timber panelling.
Michael and Carlene, who have been shown to clash less than some of the other couples, started to snap at each other as they struggled to come up with a concept.
They decided on putting televisions on the floor, which was Michael's idea that Carlene went along with because she said all her ideas got shot down.
"TVs lining the floor," Michael told Carlene of his plan, after seeing something similar on YouTube.
"What a waste of money," Carlene said. "You can't use that TV for anything."
"Yeah, the floor," Michael replied.
"You would be using TVs just as a backdrop?" she said.
"Honey, it's a challenge it's not real life," Michael huffed.
"This (room) is going to be used in real life," Carlene bit back.
"Okay, you need to get over it - it's functional and it's got wow, which is what we need to do," Michael said.
Unfortunately for Michael, they didn't finish delivering on his wow idea, which didn't impress judge Darren Palmer.
"There is $5000 at stake, that's not great for you to miss out on but you make this mistake on The Block? You're just, you're dead."
Teams are working on their master bedrooms this week.
Chris and Jenna are planning a feature copper wall, while Darren and Deanne are installing a fireplace in their room.
Maxine and Karstan are looking to improve their styling after being criticised for a cold and blank feeling in their guest bedroom.
Shannon and Simon are dealing with a brick "wall of frustration" that is being demolished.
The Block Glasshouse returns at 7.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday.
