The popular 720 ABC breakfast show host was knocked unconscious and suffered headaches and blurred vision after a fall at his home six weeks ago.

He underwent surgery yesterday after losing his vision over the weekend.

Cameron spent 48 hours in intensive care and is expected to make a full recovery.

His wife, or as Cameron affectionately refers to her on-air as "The War Office", issued a statement today to thank the ABC and his loyal listeners.

"We expect Eoin to make a full recovery but it may take some time. His speech is unaffected. He has been advised there is a possibility of lessening of brain function but as Eoin has pointed out this will just bring him closer to the rest of the populous. He hasn’t lost his sense of humour," she said.

"All of us at the station were shocked by the news earlier this week and we wish Eoin the speediest of recoveries. Like his very loyal band of listeners we can’t wait to have him back on the airwaves as soon as he is ready," ABC's local Content Manager Deborah Leavitt added.

ABC producer Bryce Green and newly-wed presenter Gillian O'Shaughnessy will present the breakfast program during Cameron's absence.

News of Cameron's injury follows an announcement made by 6PR presenter Howard Sattler late last week that he had suffered a stroke.
