Blink and you will miss this new 10-minute slot in which book reviewer Cheryl Akle, former Brisbane Writers Festival director Michael Campbell and writer Lachlan Jobbins discuss books they have been reading. Tonight, Akle is scathing about A Youth Not Wasted, Ian Parkes' memoir of his time as a jackaroo in the 1950s. Other books up for discussion include M. L. Stedman's novel The Light Between the Oceans and Patrick White's final work, The Hanging Garden (which the author had wanted destroyed upon his death). The conversations between the reviewers are not yet quite as smooth and easy as they will hopefully become, and the time constraint keeps them from going as deep as they might, but it is worth a look.
