Actor Samuel L Jackson says they played golf together, Donald Trump says they didn't. While he's on the subject, the Republican party's leading presidential candidate says Jackson appears in too many commercials for his liking, which makes him "boring".
Who to believe? Well let's start with their stories. Jackson claims to have played golf with the outrageous real estate magnate-turned-American presidential favourite, and that he was a better golfer. Trump, in Trump-esque fashion, brushed off Jackson's memory of a pleasant winning afternoon with a brutish Twitter swipe, claiming the pair had never even met.
I don’t know @SamuelLJackson, to best of my knowledge haven't played golf w/him & think he does too many TV commercials—boring. Not a fan.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 5, 2016
Seth Meyers, host of talk show Late Night With Seth Meyers, pointed out this put-down to his guest Jackson. It worked - a calm but clear-headed Jackson gave up the kind of detail about meeting with Trump that would come from, well, really meeting someone.
"Yeah! I've met him a lot, I've played golf with him," Jackson said.
"I played with him with [writer] Anthony Anderson and we clearly saw [Trump] hook a ball into a lake at Trump National at Jersey and his caddy found it. He took off running and next thing: "I got it Mr Trump!'
"[Trump] used to call me," Jackson claimed, acting out a typical conversation. "'Samuel L, The Don!'
"Oh, Mr Trump, How you doin'?
"'You want to play golf? I'm not going to play but I have a friend who does ... at my club'. When I get there, it's president Clinton, who could also verify that Donald knows me.
"Donald did turn up. And he bought Bill a jacket, but he gave me nothing."
Trump, having heard of the fun Meyers and Jackson were having, again took to Twitter, this time to challenge Jackson to a charity round.
Jackson has not yet responded.
I don’t cheat at golf but @SamuelLJackson cheats—with his game he has no choice—and stop doing commercials!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 6, 2016
Don’t like @SamuelLJackson’s golf swing. Not athletic. I’ve won many club championships. Play him for charity!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 6, 2016
