AUSTRALIAN production company Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder has sold the TV documentary reality series Go Back To Where You Came From to nine countries, including Denmark, which launches its version this week.
The Danish broadcaster TV2 filmed Send Dem Hjem (Send Them Home) over 25 days, travelling through Kabul, western parts of Afghanistan, Turkey and Greece.
Other local versions of the series are expected to roll out in Germany, France, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, South Africa, Canada and the United States.
The Australian version won international awards, including a United Nations media peace award for best documentary and the prestigious Rose d'Or. In Australia, it won AACTA and Logie awards.
The format sends six high-profile people on a 25-day journey on refugee boats and in refugee camps, eventually reaching refugee hot spots such as Iraq, Afghanistan or Somalia. CJZ has worked with the producers of the international adaptations of the show to prepare them for what lies ahead.
SBS has aired two series of the program, in 2011 and 2012. The first series drew more than half a million viewers. The second series almost doubled that. It featured former government minister Peter Reith, comedian Catherine Deveny and singer Angry Anderson.
