DVD review
Roo (Alison Bell) and her reluctant sidekick EJ (Celia Pacquola) are back for another season of this droll, sex-driven black comedy.
Last year, we learnt that Roo is cursed: everyone she has ever slept with has met their untimely death, with the exception of EJ's boyfriend, Zach (Toby Truslove).
Roo is introduced to Marcus (Damon Herriman), a sleazy man who suffers from the opposite affliction: everyone who has sex with him is cured of whatever ails them.
Convinced Marcus can cure her, Roo must convince him to sleep with her in order to save her boyfriend, Charlie (Abe Forsyth), who has been in hospital since they first dared to jump in the sack.
Creators Marieke Hardy and Kirsty Fisher portray raw and awkward comedy that rings true despite its absurdity.
Performances are fine all round, especially Herriman as Marcus, who makes your skin crawl.
Unfortunately, the series lags due to an underdeveloped plot.
This season dwells almost entirely on the will-they/won't-they tussle between Marcus and Roo, despite entertaining cameos from the likes of Shaun Micallef.
That's not to say the whole journey was unenjoyable; I just wish it had unfolded more quickly.
