How I Met Your Mother.
Channel Seven, 9.45pm
Hurricane Irene is bearing down on Manhattan. Neurotic Ted (Josh Radnor) wants to head upstate before the storm hits but as is the norm for this strangely endearing and defiantly ''non-linear'' sitcom, happenstance gets in the way. There's the matter of Marshall (Jason Segel) and his lapsed health insurance, an explanation for a sign that reads ''No boogie-boarding'' outside the gang's watering hole and, of course, the ridiculous ''ducky'' tie that Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is forced to wear for losing a bet. Not all the gags work but the sentimental romance that underscores the misadventures of the five central characters hits all the right notes.
