Underbelly star Jonathan LaPaglia will be "caught in the crossfire" of King's Cross' sexual revolution in Love Child.
Channel Nine has signed Underbelly star Jonathan LaPaglia to star in a new drama from the producers of its hit series, House Husbands.
LaPaglia will be joined by former Packed to the Rafters stars Jessica Marais and Ryan Corr in the series.
It will also star Mandy McElhinney, who starred in Howzat! and as Rhonda in an ad campaign for insurer AAMI.
McElhinney will also star in the highly anticipated Paper Giants: The Magazine Wars.
The new series, Love Child, will be set in Kings Cross in the 1960s and will tell the story of a handful of people "caught in the crossfire as they live, work and play at the very centre of the cultural and sexual revolution".
It will be produced for Nine by Playmaker Media, the company behind House Husbands.
Nine has commissioned eight episodes of Love Child.
The series was created by writer/actress Sarah Lambert, best known as the star of the TV adaptation of the feature film Heartbreak High. Lambert is also the sister of Picnic at Hanging Rock star Anne-Louise Lambert.
"Love Child is a compelling and uplifting series that will appeal to every generation, from Gen-Y to Baby Boomers and beyond," Nine drama executive Andy Ryan said.
Nine's co-drama executive Jo Rooney added: "The stories of young women and men fighting an unjust system are as relevant today as they were in the colourful, confronting and liberating world of Kings Cross in 1969."
