The television home of Modern Family's Phil and Clare has sold for US$2.15 million ($A2.29 million).

The house, which is located a few minutes from 20th Century Fox's LA film studios, in the Los Angeles suburb of Cheviot Hills, has been on the market since March.

The house is one of three featured in the series, and is home to Phil and Clare Dunphy, and their kids Hayley, Alex and Luke.

The other two homes made famous by the series are also located nearby; Mitch, Cameron and Lily's home is in Century City, while Jay, Gloria and Manny's home is located in Brentwood.

The Dunphy home was described by its selling agent as a "two-storey traditional" and features mahogany hardwood flooring, a gourmet kitchen and a spacious patio.

The four bedroom home encompasses 2792 square feet.

While the exteriors of the three homes are featured in the series, the interiors are shot at the 20th Century Fox studio in Century City.

The soon-to-be-former owner of the Dunphy home, Paul Chiames, has an agreement with the production under which a fee is paid every time the home's exterior is used as a filming location.

According to US media reports, the home's new owner will be free to continue or terminate that deal.

Chiames, who purchased the home for US$1.97 million in 2006, said it had become a minor tourist attraction, and that fans often visited the street to take photographs.
