Nine denies Packer rift with Gyngell
CHANNEL NINE'S chief executive, David Gyngell, has dismissed talk of a falling out with James Packer after the casino magnate went to rival network Seven for a ''nothing off-limits'' interview with Mike Willesee.
The emotional interview airs on Sunday Night as the new ratings season kicks off.
The notoriously private Mr Packer, pictured, breaks down as he recalls his father Kerry's death in 2005. He also discusses his weight loss and his relationship with Scientologist Tom Cruise.
Seven's top brass has been trumpeting the program as a coup, and industry talk suggests Mr Gyngell is unhappy with his friend's choice of network.
But Nine's representatives say nothing is further from the truth. As far as they are concerned, they had the first exclusive interview last year with Karl Stefanovic.
''Such is the lack of a falling-out, James is going to Gynge's for lunch tomorrow,'' a Nine spokesman, David Hurley, told Fairfax Media.
''That will give you an idea about this falling-out nonsense. Which is of course a transparent and dopey invention by our opponents.''
