The interview show has always been a problematic genre for commercial TV. Unless it is crammed with A-list celebrities, a talented host (think Michael Parkinson, Graham Norton, Andrew Denton) or the production values of a This Is Your Life, it tends to be the domain of the ABC or pay TV. So full credit to Channel Seven and production house Working Dog for getting this undervalued format back into the schedule. Pictures of You may be a modest venture but it's the very simplicity of the set-up that works. Each week, two well-known guests are gently prodded by likeable host Brian Nankervis and tonight comedian Frank Woodley and actor Noni Hazlehurst take trips down memory lane. A respectable 740,000 viewers tuned in to the series launch with Julia Morris and Steve Moneghetti, so hopefully the simple art of the TV conversation hasn't been entirely lost … yet.
