The mother and daughter team from Tasmania took home $200,000 in prize money after losing more than 86 kilograms between them over three months.

The effervescent pair beat out fellow top three finalists Gerald and Todd Nester from Victoria and Queenslanders Richard and Amber Roach.

Forty-five year old Robyn lost more than 39 kilograms and joked about wanting to "run out to the loo" before stepping on the scales for the last time during the finale.

Her 19-year-old daughter, former Australian Army Cadet, Katie entered the competition weighing more than 136 kilograms and managed to lose more than 47 kilograms.

It came down to the wire during the final weigh in with Robyn and Katie shedding just 0.07 per cent more body weight than Gerald and Todd.

Host Hayley Lewis struggled to hold back tears when welcoming back Gerald and Todd.

"These are the sweetest, most loveliest people you’ll ever meet," she told the audience about the father and son team.

Gerald and Todd won $30,000 for finishing in second place.

Gerald was also the biggest individual loser for the series after dropping more than 56 kilograms from his frame.

"King Richard" and his young daughter Amber, who placed third, lost 71 kilograms and gained $10,000.

The nine teams who took part in the 2013 series, which strived to "stamp out generational obesity", lost more than 700 kilograms collectively.

The series also helped Kevin Moore, the biggest competitor to ever take part in the weight loss show, lose more than 56 kilograms.

"Big Kev" entered the house tipping the scales at more than 254 kilograms and can now "run for a few minutes at a time at 8.5 kilometres on the treadmill," according to trainer Shannan Ponton.

Ponton said the finale was shot five weeks ago and two possible endings were filmed in front of a studio audience.

The next series of The Biggest Loser will take place in one of Australia’s fattest towns, Ararat, "where The Biggest Loser trainers will challenge Australia," Lewis said as the curtain fell on the 2013 series.
