The Ten news team's week of woe continues as sports news presenter Rob Canning exits.

Network Ten have confirmed another high profile exit today as Rob Canning, the sports news reporter and former presenter and host on Sports Tonight leaves the network.

Canning's move is not linked to the current round of redundancies.

As a result of the changes to the News and Operations department Rob Canning will be leaving TEN.

Canning has been with Ten since 2000 and was held out as a face for the future and an "invaluable asset" when announced as a part of the weekend News at Five presenter team at the end of last year.

The news comes after the axing for fellow news anchors Bill Woods, Ron Wilson, Helen Kapalos and Craig Smart within the past week.

However, a network spokesperson announced Canning's exit today.

"As a result of the changes to the News and Operations department Rob Canning will be leaving TEN."

"Rob has been with TEN for several years and most recently has presented the sport on TEN’s Weekend News bulletin.

"He is a highly regarded presenter and reporter and we wish him the very best for the future."

I would have thought that 12 and "several" are very different. A bit of respect from Ten would probably help them save some face...

- Using "respect" and "TEN" in the same sentence is language crime.
  I wouldn't know this bloke, as I never watch TEN any more. I do watch ONE for the MOtoGP, but when Lachie and Gina dump that too it will be the end of it for me.
  Sports Tonight was the best thing on commercial TV, yet another brilliant boardroon decision to dump their flagship.
  Dump the TEN board, and things may improve eh.

- When is the morning rubbish on 9 going to be given the boot? Carl and the woman on that show are doing more than most in dumbing down the people who really should be watching that type of show the least.

Are we going to have to put up with more bleating articles about sacked newsreaders? How unfair it is, how they never got to do a lap of honour before they were bundled out the door. Please, save us! They aren't any more special than anyone else and the rest of us never get an article published when we get sacked!

- I have to agree with you.
  When about 100 people get sacked at a factory you may hear it for a day or even two after that there is silence.
  Reading the news isn't something extraordinary. It is a task were one needs to speak clearly and without making too many errors. In years gone by it was one man or one women who read it. Some channels nowadays use two , usually a man and a women.
  That costs more. Just because in the age of political correctness to have the news read by one ,say man or the other ,say a women,many people view it as a slight on their respective gender.if there isn't one and the other of both sexes.
  Quite frankly I couldn't care less who reads the news as long as I understand what they are saying. When one gets a bit long in the tooth the hearing does deteriorate a bit.
  It is bad enough that some reporters and people who are being interviewed are not good speakers and sub-titles should be used to allow people to make some sense of what they are saying.

- Twenty years ago each state city had it's news team and news crew now everything is going to come out of Sydney. When are the networks going to understand that people want to know exactly what is going on in their own backyard and not some patchwork quilt coming from Sydney. IT is quite sickening that the different regions are losing not only their identity through these retrenchments but also a total disregard for the viewer. I for one don't want to watch NBC New York to find out what is happening in Frankston, Melbourne or in Perth Australia. Networks wakeup to yourself, you serve the people. Advertising content has to go back up to 98% Australian to return the TV stations to equity then we will not have overseas ads dubbed over with a stupid accent. Companies will then have to plough the money back into Australian advertising agencies and back into the economy. Government needs to reverse the Howard Lib policy on Advertising in this country.
