The truth about Mel Greig's secret project

"Royal hoax" DJ Mel Greig is planning her return to media in a joint project with former Big Brother winner Tim Dormer, Fairfax Media has confirmed – but the pair will not appear together on Kiis FM.

A spokeswoman for Kiis, Sydney’s top-rating youth station, flatly denied tabloid media reports that Greig would join the network. The story appears to have been sparked by Greig and Dormer being photographed eating lunch together yesterday. It was suggested Greig had flown to Sydney from her home town of Adelaide to meet the bosses of Kiss and "sign a deal to return to air".

Dormer, who won the 2013 season of Big Brother, currently works as a movie reviewer and fill-in host on Kiis’s Kyle and Jackie O program and is a regular on Channel Nine's Today.

"There is absolutely zero truth to this story," the Kiis spokeswoman said. "The meeting between Mel and Tim had nothing to do with ARN (Kiis’s parent company). ARN was never considering a joint project with them."

Sara Eastwood, an agent from Inspired Talent – the company that represents both Greig and Dormer – confirmed the pair is hoping to announce a joint project soon.

"They are certainly working on something together," Eastwood told Fairfax Media. "Nothing is confirmed but hopefully we can talk about it in the not-too-distant future."

Eastwood said she could not specify if Greig and Dormer are planning to work in radio or another medium.

Whatever they choose, it will be Greig’s first job in media after 2Day FM’s disastrous "royal hoax" in late 2012, which preceded the suicide of nurse Jacintha Saldanha.

While Christian went on to win the "best top jock" award at the network, Greig resigned and won a workplace action against Southern Cross Austereo. Yet she was dumped by the charities she represented and found it difficult to find employment

In an interview on Channel Seven’s Sunday Night last month, Greig revealed she had urged her bosses to disguise the voices of both nurses before the segment was broadcast. It is understood she is also the only (now-former) Austereo employee prepared to give evidence at the UK inquest into Saldanha’s death, and to personally apologise to the British nurse's family.

Eastwood said Greig had been "overwhelmed by public support" since her Sunday Night interview, but emphasised she was not joining Kiis.

Eastwood speculated that the rumours may have originated from Greig and Dormer having lunch together yesterday, then attending the Transformers 4 movie premiere, where they ran into Kiis presenter "Intern Pete"’.

"They bumped into Pete and they both know him, so of course they started chatting to him. Then they noticed a pap [paparazzo] was snapping them."

Eastwood said she won’t be surprised if photos of this "meeting" emerge today as further "proof" of Greig being signed by Kiis.

"We’re looking at lots of options for Mel but she’s not going [to Kiis]," she said.

Eastwood confirmed that Greig had returned to Twitter and is using the handle @MelGreigRadio, while Dormer tweets from @timdormer.

Greig's most recent re-tweet appeared to be from a fan who said: "Can’t wait for @MelGreigRadio’s project. Whatever she may be doing. Proud. I’ve missed her on air."

Greig’s brief Twitter bio ends with: "Time for new memories #imback."
