The 25-year-old singer and dancer, raised in Canberra, was announced as the third judge of the reality television talent show on Tuesday and will star alongside ex-Spice Girl Mel B and comedienne Dawn French when it airs on the WIN Network later this year. A fourth and final judge will be announced later this week.
The ex-Narrabundah College student and Kulture Break alum rose to fame when he was a finalist on the show in 2011.
It has been a bumpy ride to the top for Timomatic, whose real name is Tim Omaji, as he originally auditioned and was knocked back for So You Think You Can Dance in 2009. He then took his singing and dancing talents to Australia's Got Talent, which was then broadcast on Channel Seven.
Fast forward four years and the young star with better moves than Jagger and more sequin encrusted sneakers than David Bowie has become something of an entertainment oracle famous for never giving up.
Timomatic was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2012 ARIA awards for his quadruple platinum debut single Set It Off. Following his local success, which involved a gruelling promotional schedule that took him all around the country, he caught the attention of Donald Trump and was whisked to Las Vegas to perform alongside the world's most beautiful women. It wasn't an easy task but he managed to be one of the stand out performers of the 2012 Miss Universe beauty pageant, broadcast to 190 countries around the world.
His mentor and friend, founder and chief executive officer of Kulture Break, Francis Owusu, said Timomatic was the perfect candidate to adjudicate Australia's Got Talent.
“It's very exciting for us as an organisation to see Tim go so far and do so well. It could not of happened to a better guy. He'll be awesome,” Mr Owusu said.
“When he was with us at Kulture Break, even at the age of 15, he was an inspiration to so many.”
One person that will appreciate Omaji sitting in the judge's chair is “party starter” performer Kags. The 28-year-old urban artist who sings, dances and raps was a student at Kulture Break at the same time as Timomatic. Kags is now a staff member at Kulture Break and, according to Mr Owusu, deserves a big break of his own, so will be heading along to the local auditions in April.
“His style is similar to Tim's. It'll be great to see what happens next.”
Auditions for the new season of Australia's Got Talent begin in Canberra on April 16 and will take place at the Rydges Lakeside.
