Stephen King's doorstop of a sci-fi novel Under the Dome comes to television in this new series. Set in the near future, the show follows the residents of Chester Mill, a small American town, who suddenly find themselves trapped under a mysterious and impenetrable dome.
Some of those trapped are from the town, while others are only passing through when the dome falls.
As panic ensues, in and outside the dome, those trapped must work out how to manage life on the inside without turning on each other, and a microcosm of human behaviour is created.

The opening sequences of this first episode are gripping, if a little gruesome (don't be eating a steak dinner while you're watching), when the truly horrific consequences of the dome's sudden and unexpected arrival are played out.
Series producer CBS, so confident of the show's appeal to viewers, sidestepped a pilot and went straight into a 13-episode commitment. Tuesday's first episode (Ten, 8.30pm) airs the same day as it does in the US. Stand by.
