Can Ita Buttrose take out the Gold Logie? It's a tantalising thought.
Asher Keddie, whose outstanding performance as the media icon in the ABC's critically acclaimed miniseries Paper Giants, leads a field of six for Australian television's top award.
The other contenders are the ABC's talk show host Adam Hills, radio and TV comedian Hamish Blake, The Project's Carrie Bickmore, Home and Away star Esther Anderson and Today host Karl Stefanovic.
Stefanovic won the award last year.
At an industry event in Sydney, TV Week unveiled 111 nominations across 23 categories.
Although well represented in other categories, Seven's Packed to the Rafters was notable by its absence from the Gold Logie category. Its star Rebecca Gibney has been a contender for the past three years.
Equally notable by her absence was last year's surprise inclusion in the Gold Logie category, Chrissie Swan.
Swan, who parted ways with Ten's The Circle to pursue a career in radio, missed out on a starting position in the Gold Logie category this year, but she is nominated in the category of most popular presenter.
The two leading drama series are Nine's Underbelly and Seven's Home and Away, both of which have scored seven nominations apiece.
Underbelly is up for Logies in the most popular actress, most popular new female talent, most popular drama series and outstanding drama series categories. Home and Awat is up for most popular actor and actress, most popular female new talent and most popular new male talent.
Broadly, the nominations contained few surprises.
Seven led the form, with 31 nominations in total, followed by Ten (25), Nine (21), the ABC (21, including one for the digital channel ABC3), Foxtel (8) and SBS (7).
The eight Foxtel nominations went to Showcase and TV1 (2 each) with the remainder split between Lifestyle, Nickelodeon, Sky News Australia and the History Channel.
