Pay TV: Friday, February 8

Your OWN Show, Bio, 7.30pm

THAT'S OWN as in the Oprah Winfrey Network. Yes, Oprah is stuffing the schedule of her own network with a search for something else to stuff the schedule with. Or rather, she was, because this series was made in 2011, and both shows the eventual winners got to make were axed rather quickly. Anyway, this reality competition show, hosted by Nancy O'Dell and Carson Kressley, has 10 aspiring TV presenters split into two teams competing to put together different kinds of TV segments. Tonight's challenge is to produce a makeover segment with the aid of Vera Wang and a hairdresser. The makeovers themselves go well, but back in the studio things really start falling apart. It's not exactly riveting viewing, but it might give you some appreciation of how much work goes into even the simplest-looking TV segment. It's also nice to see contestants of a wide range of ages and backgrounds, including comedian Zach Anner, who has cerebral palsy and whose ambition is to make a wheelchair travel show.

Animal Cops: Back from the Brink, Animal Planet, 7.30pm

HORRIFIC and heart-warming in equal measure, this special looks at the happy endings to some of the worst cases of animal abuse and neglect this American series has shown. It's hard watching emaciated dogs, horses and pigs at the edge of death, but gratifying to see them, months later, fattened up and running around happily in their new homes.

The Colbert Report, Comedy, 7.30pm

The presidential election has been and gone, but American politics remain as mad as ever. Stephen Colbert continues to bring the laughs as he highlights the preposterousness of it all.

MasterChef: The Professionals UK, LifeStyle Food, 6.30pm

The Brits do pro MasterChef wonderfully. See what the Australian version has to live up to.

Wormwood Scrubs, CI, 9.30pm

A look inside the notorious British prison.
