Vampyre Nation, Universal, 8.30pm

JUST like the vampires in True Blood, the ones in this new telemovie are out of the coffin, slurping down synthetic blood and going to nightclubs with regular folks. That might not be so much a ripoff as an inevitable evolution of vampire-related entertainment in a post-Sookie Stackhouse world. It was pushing it a bit, though, that this movie screened in the US under the title True Bloodthirst. Anyway, the action takes place in Romania, where the vampire community has an unexpected problem on its hands. There's a new species of vampire in town - great, tall, baldy, batwinged things that seem to feed on vampires and humans alike. An American cop (Neil Jackson) teams up with an irritable vampire (Ben Lambert) and a jailed vampire hunter (Primeval's Andrew Lee Potts) to try to save the day. The movie has a kernel of an idea but it never really fires. The locations are dreary (in a bad way), the acting is uneven and the direction is at times abysmal - the prison brawl is surely the lamest committed to a digital storage medium. Only diehard schlock-horror fans might bother to take a look.

Project Runway Australia, Arena, 8.30pm

THE final five contestants compete to design an outfit for Natalie Bassingthwaighte to wear on the red carpet at a music awards do. Some of them are struggling even before Alex Perry springs the surprise that will make things so much harder. But Project Runway Australia is still reliably entertaining.
