CLASSIC WESTERN
The Searchers (1956, G) was one of many films in which John Ford directed John Wayne, and it’s one of the best. Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a man back from fighting in the US Civil War, whose niece (Natalie Wood) is kidnapped by Indians. Accompanied by her adopted brother Martin (Jeffrey Hunter), Ethan goes after her but his reasons for doing so are complicated. It’s beautifully filmed in colour and has one of the most memorable final scenes in a movie. Arc Cinema, National Film and Sound Archive, 4.30pm.
SUNDAY
