Brisbane weather: A (comparatively) cool reprieve on its way

Brisbane's sweaty masses are set for a slight reprieve leading into the weekend, with the high temperatures and sticky humidity both set to become that little bit more bearable.

The start of February has been a sweltering affair for the Queensland capital with a high of 34.1 degrees on Wednesday, an uncomfortable 36.2 on Tuesday and 35 on Monday.

It was set to get even cooler, dropping to 29 degrees on Friday and 28 on Saturday.

"What's causing (the cooling) is a south-easterly change, so we'll get some cooler and slightly drier air coming through," Ms Yuasa said.

"It'll be less humid, which will be the most notable thing, but it still will be quite a warm night tonight (Wednesday), or tomorrow morning, but the less humid air will take effect during tomorrow."

Ms Yuasa said Thursday's expected top of 30 degrees was "just about spot on" the February average.

"Thursday night into Friday morning will be noticeably cooler and will feel much less muggy," she said.

Tuesday's sweltering temperatures saw 26 people treated  between 8am and 5.30pm for heat-related illnesses.

Students at Macgregor State High School were treated by paramedics after they were evacuated from classrooms due to a bomb hoax.

Five of them were taken to hospital.
