Weatherzone meteorologist Tristan Meyers expected the next few days to hover at 17-18 degrees but warned a thunderstorm was looming.

"We're looking at around 17 and 18 degrees this week into the weekend, which is 2-3 degrees above average for this time of year," he said.

"From Saturday afternoon on there's a bit of uncertainty, which has to do with the timing of a trough appearing in NSW. It may come on Monday but could even be on Tuesday.

"That will bring showers and a possible thunderstorm, as well as a drop in temperature of 2 or 3 degrees."

Mr Meyers said Canberrans could expect a sunny Friday, mostly in the morning.

Saturday and Sunday would bring similar conditions peppered with the odd shower, and "the hint of a thunderstorm to the north and maybe over the Brindabellas" at the end of the week.

The balmy spring weather is also proving perfect for Floriade visitors, with one family from the United States travelling more than 16,000 kilometres to Canberra to visit the springtime festival.

Boston resident Alyssa Tenorio was in Canberra on a holiday with her family when they decided to join hundreds of other opportunistic visitors at Floriade on Thursday, eager to take advantage of the warm weather to stroll the gardens.

"I knew that this was one of the best places to see [in Canberra]," Miss Tenorio said.

"And I love flowers so it's something that I would appreciate any way."

Though they didn't travel quite as far, for four long-time friends the event was the perfect excuse for a reunion, driving from throughout the NSW coast to see the flowers blooming.

Marlene Grey, Faye Taylor, Marjory Bonny and Jackeline Bonham drove from Bundeena, Berry, Bateau Bay and Bundanoon respectively to catch up at the event.

"We mainly came to Floriade because we've never been and we wanted to see it," Ms Grey said.

Closer to home, parents took advantage of the weather to entertain their children outside.

Kate Stewart, a Canberra resident, said it was an easy way to keep them occupied.

"It's great, just an easy day to walk around in the sun," Mrs Stewart said.

"We can come back a couple of times over the weeks it's open. It's lovely to wander, there's so much to see."

The warmer weather has already beckoned some keen photographers outside to snap the beginning of spring.
