A severe cold snap is expected to dump up to up to 60 centimetres of snow at the mountain resorts south of Canberra over the coming days.

Higher parts of the Canberra region could cop a dusting too as the first of two cold fronts blows through the ACT and southern NSW on Friday.
Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said the front could lead to light showers across Canberra city, and snow in alpine areas - but it could be gone before you know it.
"We've got good ingredients for snow, we've got enough moisture in the air and it's going to be cold enough so that's fairly promising," Ms Westcott said.
"Any sort of snow that may settle there may not settle for very long, especially looking into Friday afternoon where the winds really start to pick up [but] the system will move away pretty quickly."
The mountain resorts already received lashings of the cold stuff after a snowstorm on Tuesday evening.
Perisher and Thredbo recorded at least 15 centimetres of snow on Wednesday morning.
Snow forecaster Peter Taylor from Snowatch said there would be plenty more on the way from Friday to Tuesday.
"We will have low level snow probably getting down to around 700 metres [on Friday] so there's going to be snow pretty much all over the roads throughout the mountains and the winds will be strong so it will be blizzard conditions," Mr Taylor said.
"We should see about 20 to 40 centimetres through Thursday and Friday and as a result we should start to see lifts open on the weekend. Saturday we actually have a little bit of a break in the weather, it'll be a little bit cloudy but it'll stay cool and the snow guns should be able to operate and then we have another front coming through on Sunday sho we should get another 10 to 20 centimetres from Sunday through to Tuesday."
The best days to hit the slopes would be Saturday and Sunday, Mr Taylor said.
"The outlook looks pretty good at the moment. The high pressure systems that have been stopping all of these cold fronts from hitting the mountains have weakened and we should see consistent snow fall in coming weeks," he said.
"It will take the resorts a while to groom the slopes, they have to mark all of the obstacles so that will take a little bit of time but definitely on Saturday there should be some lifts opening up and then through Sunday I'd say even more."
Ms Westcott said the big high coming through on the weekend that would push the cold front away from the ACT region would also send the temperature plunging, making for some very cold starts in the capital come the weekend.
"The forecast is minus 3 degrees to start off with in the Canberra region [on Sunday], that 's pretty cold," Ms Westcott said.
"It's certainly not the coldest it has been, we did have a minus 5.5 degree start on Wednesday, June 15, but the last five or six mornings have been reasonably warm. It's going to be a little bit of a shock to the system when it starts to get cold again."
When a second cold front moves across the region on Sunday night and Monday, Ms Westcott said snowseekers could get a "second bite of the cherry" but it was not likely.
"We have another cold front coming through which is going to bring some more cool air so maybe a little bit of snow again. It'll also bring some more cold air but not as much moisture as the first one did. It's probably not going to be too much compared to the first one," she said.
