Sydney experienced its own gale-force winds, massive surf and soggy conditions as severe weather warnings were broadcast throughout Saturday.
Wind gusts reached 96km/h in the Wattamolla Beach area south of Sydney on Saturday around midday, and the Sydney basin had rainfall of up to 21mm overnight on Friday.
The Bureau of Meteorology warnings covered powerful surf conditions, and gale-force winds along the Sydney coastline. Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said a low-pressure system off-shore was causing the strong on-shore winds.
By Sunday, the winds were expected to die down, and isolated showers were forecast across Sydney, with rainfall up to 10mm expected in coastal areas and 5mm in the west.
The remainder of the state was expected to stay dry, Ms Westcott said.
