Severe storm warning for ACT
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the ACT, with predictions of damaging winds and heavy rainfall this afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning at 3.35pm, for the south western parts of the ACT, the Snowy Mountains, and the South West Slopes.
The ACT State Emergency Service has put a number of units on standby to help any residents affected by the storm.
Meteorologists are forecasting that the severe thunderstorms will bring heavy rainfall, that has the potential to cause flash flooding.
The bureau predicts that Cooma, Bombala, and Tumbarumba may be affected.
An update will be issued at 6.35 pm.
Residents should move their cars under cover, keep clear of fallen power lines, creeks, and storm water drains, unplug computers and appliances, stay indoors, and secure loose items around the house.
