It’s winter, it’s late, but it looks like it’s finally here – and for the ski resorts at least, it’s a case of better late than never.
After a strong cold front swept through on Monday, blasting the region with cold air and wind, the NSW ski resorts are reporting some of their best falls of the season, topping up late-season dumps of snow from last week.
Thredbo resort said there was 30 centimetres of fresh snow on the ground on Tuesday, while Perisher reported 20 centimetres overnight – and there’s more to come.

Snow showers are expected down as low as 1000 metres elevation on Tuesday, with more possible down to similar elevations on Wednesday and Thursday. Thredbo resort said up to 50 centimetres of fresh snow could fall over the next seven days.
Two of Thredbo’s 14 lifts are closed due to poor visibility, while Perisher has 40 of 47 lifts open across the resort.
Meanwhile, in Canberra, breezy conditions are forecast to continue through Tuesday, likely keeping the apparent temperature well below the forecast top of 13 degrees for most of the day.
