Apparent temperatures in Canberra dropped below zero on Wednesday morning, even if the mercury sat above it at 6 degrees, while Perisher and Thredbo reported snow as temperatures dropped to minus three in the area.
By noon on Wednesday, it was 11 degrees in Canberra but
Canberrans will be woken up with fog and frost in the early morning on Thursday, before a mostly sunny day with a top of 18 degrees and a chance of a shower.
The wintry conditions have encouraged some snowfall in Thredbo with a spokeswoman confirming they had 10cm of the white powder on Tuesday night.
And yet more white powder is to come according to the Bureau of Meteorology, forecasting more snow or rainfall on Wednesday afternoon with winds of 20-25 km/hr and another night of minus 3 degrees.
Bruce Easton, the owner of Wilderness Sports, said it was also snowing over in Perisher and he was gearing up to go snow shoeing on Wednesday afternoon.
He said over the last couple of days he has seen over 40 centimetres of snow, which he said was normal for the time of year.
Perisher will see a low of -2 to a high of 9 degrees on Friday, while Thredbo will see a minimum of -2 and a maximum of 5 degrees.
For Canberra, Friday will see lows of two degrees, moving up to 17 degrees during the day with a chance of a shower.
The good news is the weekend will warm up with sunny conditions expected on both days.
Tops of 21 degrees are expected on Saturday and 25 on Sunday.
